Catching the Light
Discover the joy of painting the living, breathing landscape
February 8 - 15, 2023

with Gaye Adams

I am passionate about the process of plein air painting and can't wait to share all I've learned about the process with the Mastrius community.  This will be a wonderful adventure with varied locations - beaches, mountains and countryside.

The wonderful resort, amazing hospitality and great food are a bonus, as is the chance to connect with your Mastrius friends around the pool with a cold drink at the end of each painting day.

The workshop will start with a foundational approach to capturing a landscape from  direct observation in a limited amount of time.   It is a steep learning curve, but endlessly rewarding and is the fast lane to improving your skills as a painter.

There will be a demo each morning and personalized coaching at each easel for the remainder of the day.  Toward the end of the workshop, we will be spending some time doing a more formal group critique.

I seek to help students paint a representational landscape with a sense of light, atmosphere and place.  So, if this interests you it would be my pleasure and privilege to guide you in the process.

I will be working in oils, which are the easiest  of mediums to manage in a warm climate.  If you bring acrylics, a stay wet palette and a painting umbrella are highly recommended.

To view my plein air studies go to  www.gayeadams.com  and look at the small works section of my painting portfolio.

Gaye has enjoyed working professionally as an artist for over 30 years. During that time she has explored most mediums and subject matter. Through it all what remains constant is her delight with painting the effects of light and atmosphere, which is the signature of her work.

An avid plein air painter, she not only enjoys the process of immersing herself in nature, but finds the knowledge and experience gained painting in the field is key in informing her larger studio works.

The artist currently holds a Senior Signature status with the Federation of Canadian Artists and a Master Pastellist status with the Pastel Artists of Canada. In addition she is an involved member of the Artists for Conservation organization.

Gaye currently is working primarily in oils because it lends itself so well to painting on location, and enjoys traveling to remote and pristine locations, primarily in BC, for the love and challenge of it.

In addition to her field and studio work in Langley, BC, Gaye is a popular art instructor and enjoys sharing her passion and knowledge with her students both here and abroad.
