Join me! … in a tropical Mexican paradise ~ Casa Buena ~ for this 4-day, challenging and fun! ~ Oil/Acrylic Painting Workshop where we will explore painting from life, en plein air … in the beautiful tropical gardens and pristine beaches of this authentic rural retreat.
Each day we'll explore an approach (simple!) to painting from an ‘artistic perspective' , as Bobbi demonstrates each subject in oil paint. You will receive plenty of one-on-one, hands-on guidance throughout as she sensitively guides you to your own personal artistic vision .
You'll be sharing and connecting with other like-minded artistic souls while relaxing in this beautiful tropical setting, enjoying the incredible hospitality that Jane and Dallas are known for.
Here is the 4-Day Workshop Outline : Note: Each day will begin with an oil demonstration by Bobbi. Emphasis will be on painting your idea using “Shape, Value, Edges & Colour” – The fundamentals of painting. This workshop is suitable for all levels as Bobbi will meet you where you are at.
First Up: Day 1
Painting the Still Life - we'll be setting up our colourful, eclectic and inviting still lifes on the gorgeous veranda of Casa Buena . This subject will allow us to explore the fundamentals: Shape, Value, Edges and Colour … it will allow you to warm up in your inspiring setting and also give Bobbi an idea of who you are as an artist!
Next Up: Day 2
Painting Florals In The Garden - We'll take a step into the luscious tropical garden of Casa Buena … this incredible garden inspires a painting at every turn. We'll be exploring, in paint, the tropical florals and, if you like, some of the charming architecture. All this, just steps from our door. We'll be focusing on sketches or studies on this day with smaller paintings.
Next Up: Day 3
Let's Paint At The Beach! – Today we'll head to one of the incredible pristine beaches just a short drive from Casa Buena . Here we'll set up on the beach surrounded by the rustic and colourful boats, fishermen and beautiful ocean landscape. Again, we'll focus on painting studies with smaller paintings.
Our Final Day of Painting: Day 4
On this day we'll hang out at Casa Buena , and today we'll focus on taking one of our studies to a larger format painting, or you may choose to complete one of your studies. We'll use photographs you've taken on location, if necessary, (be sure to bring your iphone and ipads!) to bring your ideas to fruition. Paint in the garden or paint in the studio, the choice is yours.

Workshop
Instructor:
BOBBI DUNLOP
A passion of pursuing the language of painting has channeled Bobbi Dunlop's unique inner vision, experience and life wisdom into an avenue for expressing her truest reactions on canvas. Challenge, personal growth, the pursuit of greater knowledge and especially, the Glory of her Creator, have always been the main drivers of Bobbi's work.
Dunlop's subjects are eclectic, certainly simple, and sometimes personal.
For her, a subject is a vehicle in which to explore paint in all its glory;the quality and character of each brushstroke.
Among her subjects is the figure, still-life, plein-air and a recent return to the horses which lovingly filled her sketch book as a young artist and child. Dunlop's sensitivity to her subject and pure joy of painting, results in a beautiful synergy, often evoking a symbolic meaning or undertone.
Always, the intent is to consider the aesthetic quality of the painting and to honour beauty in its message.
Bobbi Dunlop is an Associate Member of Oil Painters of America. She began her foray into teaching in 1994 and matured that side of her artist life to become a much in demand instructor. She resides in Calgary, where she paints from life, surrounded by memorabilia and works-in- progress. Dunlop's work is enjoyed in numerous corporate and private collections in Canada, the U.S. and the UK. |
